With over a third of LA students walking to school, safety is a significant concern. Existing map apps prioritize speed but overlook the importance of well-lit, secure routes, leaving lower-income students vulnerable. The challenge was to create an app that accounted for safety in both urban and suburban environments.

Orbit is a mobile app designed to prioritize safety and inclusivity. The redesign features a minimalistic map with key icons highlighting safe routes, nearby businesses, and real-time tracking for emergencies. Users can filter routes based on low crime, well-lit paths, and proximity to open spaces or high housing density, ensuring a safer journey for all walkers.
