With TikTok’s algorithm promoting viral content, the platform has inadvertently amplified harmful body image narratives, often linked to extreme dieting, weight loss, and fitness culture. My research aimed to explore how these trends overshadow more positive, recovery-focused body image discussions and the influence of influencer culture on mental health.

I conducted a detailed analysis using a mix of data visualizations and textual analysis to track engagement metrics for body image-related hashtags. By leveraging correlation heatmaps, word clouds, and engagement patterns, I highlighted how TikTok disproportionately boosts harmful content, offering recommendations for improved algorithm transparency and content moderation.
